What is the IIBA?

The IIBA is the International Institute for Business Analysis. It is headquartered in Toronto, Canada, and has chapters around the world in North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Its mission is to develop and maintain standards for the practice of business analysis and for the certification of its practitioners. The web site is www.theiiba.org.

Are there local IIBA chapters in Minnesota?

Yes. The St. Paul-Minneapolis chapter is the only chapter of the IIBA currently in Minnesota. The chapter serves business analysts primarily in the Twin Cities metro area.

How do I become a member of the IIBA?

Visit the IIBA web site (www.theiiba.org) for membership information and enrollment details. Annual dues for the international organization are $95 per individual.

How do I become a member of the St. Paul-Minneapolis chapter?

You must first become a member of the international organization (see above). After you have become a member of the international organization, visit one of the chapter’s meetings and pay your annual chapter dues. Annual dues for the chapter are $20 per individual. Dues must be paid by cash or check – the chapter is not currently able to take credit card payments. Also, the chapter is not currently able to accept local dues payments via the web site.

When are chapter meetings held?

Chapter meetings are held at least 6 times a year, generally on the second Thursday of the month (January, March, May, July, September, November). Check-in begins at 6 PM. The meeting begins at 6:30 PM. Additional chapter meetings may be scheduled in the off-months. Please check the web site for the most current information on scheduled meetings.

Where are chapter meetings held?

The location of chapter meetings varies. Please check the web site (www.theiiba-msp.org). Most of the chapter meetings in 2008 are being held at the Park Place Hotel in Bloomington.

How much does it cost to attend a chapter meeting?

If you are a member of the St. Paul-Minneapolis chapter of the IIBA, you attend the chapter meetings for free after paying the local chapter annual dues of $20. If you are not a member of the local chapter, the cost is $20 per meeting.

Are food or drinks available at the chapter meetings?

We have a limited selection of food and beverages available at the chapter meetings. Food selection is usually limited to finger food and/or desert items. Beverages are often limited to water. Note that alcohol is NOT served.

How do I sign up for a chapter meeting?

Please RSVP for chapter meetings through the chapter’s web site - www.theiiba-msp.org. RSVPs should be submitted at least two days prior to the meeting date. This will allow chapter leadership to plan appropriately for the number of attendees. NOTE: Any payment of fees will be handled at the meeting.

What benefits do I get for being a chapter member?

By being a chapter member, you are able to attend the chapter member meetings without paying a per-meeting fee. You also receive notification of chapter events, announcement of training opportunities, and other information of interest to business analysts.

Can I attend chapter meetings without being a member?

Absolutely. However, non-chapter members pay a fee of $20 per meeting.

What happens at chapter meetings?

At each chapter meeting, we take a few minutes to pass on chapter news. The bulk of the meeting, however, is focused on a specific topic of interest to business analysts and is presented in a lecture or discussion format.

How long does each chapter meetings last?

Chapter meetings generally last 1.5 – 2 hours.

How can I get involved in the IIBA?

The St. Paul-Minneapolis chapter is always interested in individuals who want to get involved. Please visit the web-site (www.theiibe-msp.org) regularly for postings of volunteer opportunities, or contact a member of the board of directors to express your interest.

Are there sponsorship opportunities?

Sponsorship opportunities exist at the local chapter level, as well as at the international level. At the local level, the chapter looks for companies or individuals who are willing to sponsor individual meetings ($500 per meeting). Annual chapter-level sponsorships are also available. Please see the sponsorships page on the web site for details on the types, benefits and costs of the different types of sponsorships, as well as instructions on how to submit a sponsorship request.
