Our Next Event Chapter News Certification

Please join us for what promises to be a great November meeting. 

 

We will be holding Elections for a number of board positions at this meeting and encourage everyone to cast your ballot for the future board members to help grow and develop our local chapter.  Thank you to everyone who has already expressed their interest in running for positions, and we are still accepting candidacy requests.  If you are interested in running, please submit your intent to the IIBA gmail account iiba.msp@gmail.com.  In this email, include the position you are interested in, a one to three paragraph bio about yourself and a paragraph as to why you are running for this particular role.  To run for office, you must be a member in good standing and be present at the November meeting. 

All bios and intent must be received by October 31, 2008.  For those who are voting, you must be a member of the chapter in good standing as well.  Review the attached document for information regarding open positions and the election. 

 

Also at this month's meeting, we will be hosting a panel discussion for the last 30 minutes.  Each of our premier sponsors, as well as our meeting sponsor and our Chapter President will be on the panel to answer questions.  This is your opportunity to discuss anything you are interested in hearing more about in the world of Business Analysis.  Questions can be on techniques, tools, organizations, market conditions, trends – whatever has been on your mind. 

Please submit your questions in advance of the meeting to iiba.msp@gmail.com.  The top 10 questions will be selected and each panel member will discuss 2 of the questions.  This is a great new component to our monthly meetings; please submit your questions by November 7 for consideration.

Overview – PMs and BAs are from different worlds-Let's meet on the Moon 

 

Business Analysts and Project Managers have very different strengths and interests.  To increase project success the BA balances the need for speed and the quality of the requirements and solution.  The PM looks to maximize the common strengths and leverage differences between a PM and BA.  This presentation will highlight key characteristics of each role and traits of people who make the best PMs and BAs.  We'll explore the differences with humor, awareness and intent to leverage differences for improved project delivery.

 

Objectives

 

Attendees will leave this meeting with an enhanced ability:

·   To understand your own strengths and be leverage strengths of other team members to enhance team dynamics.

·   To learn the yin and yang of BAs and PMs on project teams to avoid missteps and build on the positive energy created by differences.

·   To share real life stories about project team PMs and BAs to emphasize that heightened awareness of differences and commonalities is needed throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Presenters 

Colleen O'Neill, PMP, Senior Consultant with Hollstadt & Associates has over 20 years of diversified business experience spanning Program Management, Project Management, Project Office Implementation, Communication, Change Management, Training Development, Operational Management and Facilitation.

 

Teresa Tweeton, PMP, senior consultant with Hollstadt & Associates, has 15 years of experience in projects in Agriculture, Manufacturing, Public Sector and Financial Services.  Coach, Mentor, Trainer, Business Analyst, Project Lead and Project Manager are project roles she has engaged.  She has a B.S. from North Dakota State University, an M.S. of Software Engineering from the University of St. Thomas.  She also has served as the MSP Chapter Treasurer since January 2006.

Board of Directors Announcement


Who: Any member who would like to Join the Board of the Minneapolis / St Paul IIBA chapter.

When: Elections will be held at the November 13th General Meeting

What: Board positions open for election in November are: � VP of Membership Services � VP of Communications � Treasurer � Secretary
(Board Positions not open until the 2009 elections: � VP of Marketing � VP of Event Management � VP of Education � Board President )

Here is a brief description of what each role is responsible for. See which one fits you the best!
 
VP Membership Services              
Develop and maintain Chapter Membership plan; Responsible for maintain the Chapter Membership lists and records
VP Communications
Distribure materials to Membership; General meeting invitations; Notifications to Membership; Website updates 
Treasurer
Oversee management of Chapter funds and other related financial duties; Responsible for maintaining the Chapter bank account and other financial arrangements 
Secretary
Keep Board records; Record Board meetings; Track volunteer participation; Responsible for Board communications, including maintaining the Chapter mail box

Other Logistics: Board members are expected to attend the majority of Board and General meetings. In 2009 there will be 12 General meetings and 12 Board meetings (one per month). All positions have a 2 year commitment

Who can run for election:   Anyone. However, you must be a member in good standing of both the International and Local chapter (dues must be current)

What qualifications do I need:  Think of it as a short resume. Each candidate will have the opportunity to present a one to three paragraph (one page or less) bio that should depict what position they are running for, why they want the role and their qualifications for the role

When are the bios due:  You must send your intention to run and accompanying bio by Friday, October 31st to the IIBA email address iiba.msp@gmail.com

Other than my bio, how will voters know who I am:  Each candidate will be given an opportunity to speak to why they are running for an open board position briefly at the November 13th election meeting. Campaigning is not allowed

Who can vote: Only members in good standing can vote. All voters must be present at the November 13th meeting. Absentee ballots will not be accepted

Who counts the votes:  A neutral, third-party, non-board member will be running the election. They will be responsible for directing the process, the candidates, counting of the votes and disclosure of the new board members to the general local chapter populace

CBT for the CBAP® Exam Now Available!

It's here! Computer-based testing of the CBAP® exam launched on September 1, 2008 at dedicated test centers around the world.

With computer-based testing (CBT), Certified Business Analysis ProfessionalTM (CBAP®) candidates will benefit from more exam dates, times and locations, enabling them to take the exam when and where they wish. Plus, the proximity of locations will help to reduce travel time and costs. There are also more international exam locations including Australia, New Zealand, England, UAE, India, South Africa and China, with more locations to come. The launch of CBT of the CBAP® exam is allowing IIBA to further expand our reach to our international membership. It is our hope that by making the CBAP® exam more accessible, we can continue to increase the number of CBAP® recipients, bringing a proven level of knowledge and skill in the practices and techniques of business analysis to more and more companies around the world.

Since the launch of the CBAP® designation in 2006, there has been strong demand worldwide with Business Analysts, Business Systems Analysts, consultants, trainers and others requesting that IIBA make the CBAP® exam available to them. With CBT, we are able to deliver.
